OpenAI is preparing to bring ChatGPT Work capabilities directly into the regular Chat experience, allowing selected users to move from standard conversations to more complex tasks without switching modes. The company said in an email seen by BleepingComputer that it will begin testing combined Chat and Work tabs with a small group of users in the coming weeks.
The planned experience is designed to let users develop an idea and then have ChatGPT carry out related work in the same place. OpenAI said users will be able to provide files and plugins, ask ChatGPT to build a website, create a presentation or perform tasks on the web, and then review and guide the results.
The initial test will be limited before the feature is made available to more users. Codex, however, will remain a separate experience in the ChatGPT desktop app.
OpenAI is also preparing to make ChatGPT and Codex draw from a shared usage allowance for Pro subscribers. The company said that Unlimited Instant usage is included with the subscription and will not count toward that shared limit. More advanced models and complex tasks will consume more of the allowance depending on the work involved.
Users will be able to view their combined remaining usage and reset times under Settings > Usage. Once the allowance is exhausted, OpenAI says users can wait for it to reset, upgrade their subscription or purchase credits for eligible features.
Separately, OpenAI has already doubled Work and Codex allowances for its Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500 subscriptions. The change took effect on October 29.
